West Virginia

West Virginia License Plates

West Virginia issued its first license plate in March 1905. The 1905 WV license plate was dated 1906 and made of embossed metal, probably steel. This was a smaller than standard license plate, and had an expiration date of March 1906. The West Virginia license plates from 1907 through 1916 were made of porcelain. The only years West Virginia issued undated license plates were 1907 and 1908, all other years were dated with an embossed year or later expiration decals.

The 1921 and 1922 West Virginia license plates had a unique circular embossing of the abbreviation of the state WVA. The state of West Virginia introduced retro-reflective sheeting in 1961 and continues to manufacture license plates with retro-reflective sheeting today. In 1963 West Virginia issued a commemorative license plate with the slogan "1863 CENTENNIAL 1963" on both the 1963 and 1964 license plates. From 1965 through 1976, West Virginia embossed the slogan "MOUNTAIN STATE" on the top of all license plates. The slogan "WILD, WONDERFUL" was introduced in 1976 and is still used on license plates today.

THANKS, the actual plate you made looks much better in person than the proof you sent for me to approve, you went above and beyond my expectations, and thanks for taking the time to get it right.

ATTN: Customer ServiceTo whom it may concern,I would like to take this opportunity to thank you and your company for producing a fine product. I have ordered about 8 plates from you over the past 10 years and have been delighted by every one of them.I recently ran into a miss communication with the printing of my latest plate. It was a gift for a friend of mine. I would like to thank you for giving me the opportunity to have the plate redone at a nominal fee. I understand the price of raw materials, shipping and handling and the other items that go with that. But all in all the recipient loved what was given to him thus eliminating the need to redo that plate. Thanks again. In the meantime I will get together additional information for new plates over the next couple of weeks. Again thank you for your assistance and your continued production of a quality product.Sincerely Yours,Lester

I just wanted to take a moment to thank you for the extra effort in duplicating my original Italian license plate for my 1957 Abarth 750 GT Corsa. I thought I would send along a couple of pictures so you could see the end result. I am a very happy repeat customer and have referred many of my colleagues to your company.John
